Student Teaching

Each year, Otto von Guericke University admits approximately 185 medical students. In the 4th year of training, the lectures of the individual surgical subjects and the practical lessons start. Excellent training of future colleagues is very important to us. This is reflected in the evaluation of the teaching units by the Dean of Studies Office: In the evaluation, cardiothoracic surgery takes a top place. Almost 80% of the students rated the teaching as good or very good (35.5% voted very good; 43.8% good).

This includes not only good lectures, but also dedicated practical tutorials. We provide case- and problem-oriented training. Students participate in medical rounds and acquire basic knowledge of perioperative inpatient patient care in cardiothoracic surgery. They learn manual skills such as blood sampling, peripheral venous catheter placement, knotting and suturing techniques, practice on specially developed surgical models and assist in the operating room.
