Pacemakers and Defibrillators
Severe cardiac arrhythmias can quickly lead to loss of consciousness and life-threatening emergencies without the patient first experiencing warning symptoms. Pacemaker (SM) or implantable defibrillator (ICD) systems may be operated under local anesthesia, i.e. implanted without general anesthesia and bring the susceptible patient to safety and protection against emergency situations.
The regular (usually semi-annual) painless check-up of the aggregate function can be done on an outpatient basis, but also in the Department of Cardiology of the University Hospital Magdeburg. The limitations in everyday life by wearing the system, usually under the skin in the area of the clavicle, are low.
In our clinic, various common types of pacemaker and ICD systems are implanted.
Similarly, there are extensive treatment options for infections involving pacemaker or ICD systems, which often require complete system removal and the installation of alternative systems.
